Low Head
At Low Head, near the mouth of the Tamar, a guided evening tour leads small groups along a coastal reserve to a viewing platform above the beach, where little penguins come ashore to burrows tucked into the boxthorn. The historic pilot station and lighthouse sit just nearby.
Numbers swing with the season — expect a hundred or two on a summer night, and anywhere from a handful to a hundred through the cooler months. The tour runs nightly, even on Christmas and Boxing Day.
