Bruny Island — The Neck
The Neck is the slender isthmus that joins North and South Bruny, reached by ferry from Kettering. A boardwalk and a famous stepped lookout climb the dune; after dark, little penguins and short-tailed shearwaters (muttonbirds) return in numbers to their burrows.
This is a free, self-guided site — which makes visitor behaviour all the more important. Stay on the boardwalk, keep white light away, and give the birds room.
