Bicheno

A guided dusk tour to a private rookery just out of town — one of the most reliable year-round sightings on the east coast.

The place

Bicheno

A long-running, eco-accredited tour takes small groups by bus to a private rookery a few minutes out of Bicheno — ground the public can't otherwise reach — where knowledgeable guides share the colony's story as the penguins return.

Because the rookery is sheltered and active all year, Bicheno is one of the most dependable places to see little penguins even in winter, when many other sites quieten down.
